A forklift is a wheeled handling vehicle used for loading, unloading, stacking, and short-distance transport of palletized goods. Its structural characteristics and working performance are indicated by technical parameters such as rated lifting capacity, load center distance, and mast tilt angle. Forklifts are generally classified into internal combustion forklifts and electric forklifts. So, what are the causes and troubleshooting methods for heavy forklift steering?

一. Symptoms:

1. When turning left or right, turning the steering wheel feels heavy and requires considerable effort.

二. Causes:

1. The upper and lower bearings of the steering screw are adjusted too tightly or the bearings are damaged.

2. The meshing clearance between the rack and pinion is adjusted too tightly.

3. The ball joints of the tie rods are adjusted too tightly.

4. The tie rods or steering axle are bent or deformed.

5. Poor lubrication of the forklift steering system, such as insufficient oil in the steering gear. Insufficient lubrication of the ball joints increases friction.

三. Troubleshooting Methods:

1. Remove the rocker arm of the forklift steering gear. If the steering wheel feels heavy when turned, adjust the tightness of the rack, sector gear, and screw bearings. If uneven tightness or internal jamming is felt, check the screw, steel balls, guide clamps, rack, and bearings for burrs or damage. Repair or replace as necessary.

2. When turning the steering wheel, if it feels easy, the steering gear is in good condition. Check if the transmission mechanism is too tight or poorly lubricated. Adjust and lubricate as necessary.

3. If the above conditions are all good, check if the steering axle is deformed and if the forklift tire pressure is sufficient.
